May 11 - Wednesday
There may have been some confusion on the timeline for projects and presentations.
The presentation is just for you to show/teach us the chemistry of your topic (how you made the connection between your topic and the AP Chemistry topics we learned this year). The sign-up (mentioned in yesterday's assignment) is if you have a project that involves fun things that we can all do together during class time - this may not be the case for all of you - some may have to do theirs outside of class time.
So, we will likely do all of the presentations on May 25-26th because we are a small class and they are short. That means we have May 16-23 (presentations for people to select a day or two where we will participate in their "experiment"

This is our last day of "formal instruction"!
This is, without a doubt, one of the most challenging courses you could ever take in high school - and you were crazy enough to go for it! I am proud of each and every one of you for sticking with AP Chemistry! Always remember the look on people's faces when you tell them that you took AP Chemistry - those faces, looking back at you saying, "You must be brilliant...and crazy...probably both!" are the best consolation prize in the world for taking this class - because you are Brilliant and you are Crazy and those two things together make for a very special person!
I hope that you are proud of yourself for not giving up. I hope that you are proud of yourself for learning things that most people in this world will never understand!

Due: Unit 6 Thermodynamics Post-Exam Review - Pink Sheet
Averages were lower than I expected. I do not blame the classes for low averages, I blame myself, the instruction, and the exam questions. So, I've done a complete item analysis and have chosen to throw out #5, 12ci, 12cii.
Your scores will be recalculated to show the removal of 3 questions. If you completed the pink sheet, your AP conversion score will be applied to the grade book.
Is this exam crushing your grade? Complete the pink sheet and schedule a time before 8 am Friday to retake it. You need a full 45- minute block minimum to retake - it must be completed in one sitting.
We will review Thermodynamics before the AP Exam/Final to make sure you understand.

If you DID NOT watch the video, explain why not (a few words will do).
Assignment #2: AP Unit 6 Practice Problems for Exam
Due Friday
These are not optional. Complete them in AP Classroom.
The real benefit is not to see IF you know the information, it is to spur your thinking about the concepts that will be covered.
For example: If you get a question wrong (or don't know how to answer it), you should be focused on learning how to answer those types of questions and learning from what the correct answer is. Then go and review that concept.
Use these practice problems as a learning tool, not as an assessment!

Everyone will complete a Pink Post-Assessment Sheet - no exceptions.
The goal is to use this as a learning tool - do not copy answers from other students, you will not learn if you copy!
Pink Sheet is Due on Tuesday
When this sheet is turned in, I will apply the AP 'scaled' grade. Until then, you have the percentage grade.
This is my general Score Conversion Chart that I use for converting AP Exams into percentages in the grade book. It changes for every exam depending on the difficulty of questions and overall averages so this is only a reference, it does not apply in all situations.
Analysis Period 4:
4 people completed practice problems: Average = 3.25 practice problems / person
% of class using practice problems: 50%
5 people watched videos: Average = 2.75 videos / person
% of class using videos: 63%
% of class using practice problems and videos: 38%
Class average score on Exam: 66.9%
Analysis Period 5:
5 people completed practice problems: Average = 1.8 practice problems / person
% of class using practice problems: 67%
2 people watched videos: Average = 1 video / person
% of class using videos: 17%
% of class using practice problems and videos: 8%
Class average score on Exam: 61.7%
Post-Quiz Review: 1.5-1.7
Examine your quiz.
Not happy with your score? Complete a Pink Post-Assessment Sheet and schedule a time in the retake the quiz. Must be completed before 8 am on Wednesday. No retakes after that time.

January 17 - Monday
No School - PIR day
What are we Learning?
How to derive the rate constant "k" for the rate law equation by using experimental data.
Why are we learning this?
To build our understanding of the rate law equation and how changes in conditions (temp, conc, etc) affect the rate of a reaction
How will I know I have learned this?
When you can determine "k" from changes in concentration and reactant order

Unit 4 FRQ
Each person must log in to AP Classroom but you may work with your lab partner.
Each person will answer the questions in AP Classroom. If it is easier to write out your work/answer and upload a screenshot feel free to do so.
Submit when finished.
When finished you should be able to score your FRQ (if I set it up correctly...which is actually quite unlikely...but if it doesn't work we will score it when I return).
Unit 4 Post-Test Analysis
Visit your test and analyze each problem. Determine how/why the correct answer is the correct answer.
