Fellow Students Need Your Help

May 12 - Thursday

Sorry I won't be in today. I am still coughing like crazy. Hopefully, I can make it back on Friday so we can do the Coffee Lab.

Normally we would intertwine gas laws lectures with the chemistry of coffee as we brew with our siphon brewers. I guess we will just have to split things up and do some learning without me.

Assignment #1: 14.1 Properties of Gases

Due Tomorrow (The following page numbers may not be correct as I am using the online book to set this up, if they are different, use the chapter and section as your guide)

  • Ch 14.1 Properties of Gases - Read/Notes Ch 14.1 Pg 450-454 (this goes in your notes, it will not be handed in)

  • 14.1 Review Pg 454 #1-8 (This goes on a piece of paper to be turned in tomorrow)

Assignment #2: 14.2 The Gas Laws

  • Ch 14.2 The Gas Laws - Read/Notes Ch 14.2 Pg 455-463 (this goes in your notes, it will not be handed in)

  • 14.2 Review Pg 463 #17,18,19,22,24,25 (This goes on the same piece of paper as 14.1 to be turned in tomorrow)

May 11 - Wednesday

I hope to be back tomorrow. If so, we will be doing the Coffee Lesson 4 lab. If not, there will be a lesson/lecture on Gas Laws. I will try to keep you updated.

    • Tasks to be completed today:

        1. Equipment Checkout: Radon CAPstone Equipment Checkout Form.

            • You are responsible for any/all equipment that you check out. If you are placing a Radon Detector somewhere to collect data, you must have a plan in place to ensure it does not get damaged, stolen, or unplugged.

            • All of the following must be in place today (or prepared for/written) before you can check out the equipment.

                  1. Where will you place it? (ex. In a locked closet? In the nurse's office? etc)

                  2. You must leave a note attached (or next to) the radon detector explaining who it belongs to, why it is here, and who to contact if there are any questions/issues, clarify that it must remain plugged in, etc.

                  3. Radon detectors must be placed about 1 foot (or more) off the ground, a foot or more away from electrical devices, and (ideally) a foot away from any walls.

        2. Signatures: Science Component and Outreach Component by the end of the day today.

        3. Start the Science and Outreach projects TODAY! The first check-up will be Wednesday of next week -you must provide evidence of what you've accomplished in the last 7 days and what you will accomplish in the next 7 day

  3. Radon CAPstone - (Community Action Project)

    • You and your lab partner will be teaming up with another group. You will work together on the Radon CAPstone. Why? Because the expectation is that your CAPstone will be amazing! Your efforts will require 4 people who are motivated, hard-working, creative, and thorough. The goal of this CAPstone is to "Change the World"!

    • If your team is unproductive, distracting, or has any "issues", I will dissolve your team and you will be required to finish the project on your own - you will have to work alone.

          1. One person in your group fill out the Radon CAPstone 2022 Teams form

          2. In Google Drive, create a new folder. Title it: "P? Radon CAPstone YourLastName PartnerLastName PartnerLastName PartnerLastName"
